Turkey cancels simplified visa regime with Turkmenistan

The decree on the abolition of the simplified visa regime for citizens of Turkmenistan to Turkey was signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on September 13.

As is known, the Turkish company «Gateway International», located in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, intends to handle visa processing. In Turkmenistan itself, due to strict control over the Internet, the website of this company does not open.

As «Chronicles of Turkmenistan» reports, a huge number of young people gathered at the office of the Turkish company «Gateway International».

The initiative to cancel the simplified visa regime for Turkmen citizens comes from official Ashgabat. For a long time, Turkey did not comment on Turkmenistan’s initiative.

Human rights activists are confident that this step is another infringement on the freedom of movement of Turkmen citizens.
